Rockin' & Roaring

The decade of the 1920s was a particularly fertile time in the development of American music. The commercialization of radio and the growth of the record industry created a growing market for music. The “Roaring Twenties” brought a wide variety of musical traditions, folk music from both the Caribbean and the American South. Gospel, blues, and minstrel songs all grew out of these influences as well. Finally, jazz, a brand new genre, resulted from the melding of these traditions with classical music, military marches, and a quick-tempoed music called ragtime. We invite you to come in and enjoy the Spirits and Sounds of the 1920’s.
